Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day

For the second year, the Waccamaw Trail Blazers will be hosting a "Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day" to encourage today's youth to put down their game controllers and get outside.

This Saturday, October 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Waccamaw Wildlife Refuge at Cox Ferry Lake in Conway, SC, The Waccamaw Trail Blazers will be hosting an IMBA (International Mountain Biking Association) sponsored event. Participants will learn the basics of mountain bike riding while also learning about the importance of a shared respect of the outdoors.

IMBA states:

Besides being good, healthy fun, the goal is to develop a connection between kids and the natural world around them. Today's children are tomorrow's land managers and politicians — future decision-makers for important matters like recreation and access to public lands. How different might our current access landscape look today if previous generations of policy makers had grown up riding bikes on natural-surface trails?

All age and skill levels are invited to participate in the event. There will be a few additional bicycles and helmets on hand for to borrow but you are encouraged to bring your own if you can.

Cox Ferry Lake Recreation Center is a part of the Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge and has three walking and hiking trails. View the trail map PDF
