In a search for a 300 year mark, massive live oak presented in Bluffton

Not the tree in question, but you get the idea.
While the presence of a massive live oak in Burton has been known for some time, the nine-and-a-half foot diameter tree on the old Cherry Hill Plantation is only now coming into the limelight.
And that thanks for a new guesstimate on its age: 350-to-400 years, which would satiate the City of Beaufort's desire to find a tree that was alive when the city's charter was signed in 1711.
The Island Packet made a visit out to the tree and has a report and photo; take a read here.
