Local Chefs Tackle Childhood Obesity One Healthy Meal at a Time

Louie’s Kids announces chefs for 6th Annual Little Chef, Big Chef Charity Competition

Charleston, S.C. (June 10, 2014) – Four gifted Charleston chefs partner with local children fighting obesity to provide a night of healthy and innovative meals. The Little Chef, Big Chef Competition, this year held on August 25th at The Ordinary, benefits Louie’s Kids, a national nonprofit that helps treat childhood obesity as well as promotes a healthier more productive life with parent coaches, behavioral counselors and nutrition and physical fitness trainers. The event’s guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the dishes and sample cuisine from some of Charleston’s finest culinary talent.

This year’s roster of superstar chefs for the event includes: Mike Lata of FIG, Michelle Weaver of Charleston Grill, Marc Collins of Circa 1886, and Craig Deihl of Cypress. Each chef will team up with one little chef, a child from the Louie’s Kids program who has demonstrated a commitment to forming healthy habits and active lifestyles, and compete for the best dish of the night. Little chefs are chosen to participate in the event after completing three weeks of weight loss camp.

"I am excited to be a part of Little Chef Big Chef again this year," said Mike Lata Chef/Partner of FIG Restaurant. "The kids are always great and eager to learn. This is definitely one of my favorite events of the year."

For Louis Yuhasz, founder of Louie’s Kids, the Little Chef, Big Chef event is especially meaningful. “Tackling obesity begins with an individual’s relationship with food,” said Yuhasz. “With an event like Little Chef, Big Chef, we are able to teach these kids that food can be nutritious, affordable and still tasty."

Tickets are available for $150/person. Advance tickets can be reserved by calling The Ordinary at (843) 414-7060. Purchasing tickets early is strongly encouraged, as space is limited to 80 people this year and will sell out.
