Time's up on Sunday for free credit monitoring in South Carolina

Time is almost up for South Carolina taxpayers to register for a free year of credit monitoring from Experian.

The $12 million package from the state was offered starting in October of last year as triage for a massive breach of taxpayer data. The deadline to register is March 31.

Some 3.6 million Social Security numbers and 387,000 credit and debit card numbers were exposed in the breach, including some 16,000 unencrypted credit card numbers.

To register for the ProtectMyID package go to protectmyid.com/scdor and enter the activation code SCDOR123, or call 866-578-5422.

A hat tip to The Post and Courier for remembering.
