New Dorchester County park piquing public interest

The recently purchased park at Bacon's Bridge on the Ashley River has received such a great deal of public attention that Dorchester County officials have implemented addition security, including fencing installation, around it to bar community access for the time being.

Dorchester County bought the 83-acre lot for $1.35 million in 2012. At first, the space was going to be used for residential development but was in receivership. Thanks to this original plan though, the park has approximately $3 million of infrastructure already in place, including an isolated path along the river with boardwalks and a dock on the Ashley itself.

The fences will reamin locked until March 9, when the county will invite members of the community inside to offer their own suggestions for improvement.
