Vist With The Animals of SC-CARES!

SC Coastal Animal Rescue and Educational Sanctuary is now open for tours every Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday from Memorial Day through October, weather permitting.  SC-CARES is supported by volunteers and donations, the tours are to educate the public, build awareness, build support, and generate resources.  Tour times will be 10 AM, 12PM, and 2PM.  Tours take about 90 minutes and are lead by a docent.  Group size is limited to so reservations are required at least 1 day in advance.  Donations are suggested; $15 for adults, $10 ages 3 to 18, but you are encouraged to donate whatever your heart moves you too.  Plan a full day of educational activities by combining a visit to Georgetown with a visit to SC-CARES.  Start with Sweeties Sweets at 707 Front Street in Georgetown which is owned and operated by Skip & Cindy the founders of SC-CARES and supports them and the sanctuary.  For tour availability please call Jerry Walls (843)-933-1372 or email jwalls443@gmail.com or Gloria Walls (843)-933-1724 or email seedyberries@gmail.com

Located just outside of Georgetown SC-CARES has been the life changing dream of Cindy Hedrick & Skip Yeager dating back to 2000 and before.  In 2006 they took a leap of faith and relocated from Lexington, North Carolina with 35 rescued animals.  Currently SC-CARES is home to over 170 animals, animals that have to be fed, cleaned, sheltered, and loved every day.  SC-CARES is one of very few rescues and sanctuaries in the country for wildlife, domestic, and exotic animals.  They provide a permanent home for unwanted, neglected, abused, and troubled animals.  Most animals come with stories, some are very disturbing, these stories are shared with visitors to the sanctuary.  Part of SC-CARES’s mission is to illustrate the responsibilities, challenges, and failures of keeping similar animals as pets.  They hope that with love and attention even the most troubled of the resident animals will live out their years at the sanctuary comfortable and fulfilled.  They are keenly aware of their obligation to maintain a high level of care for the current residents, regrettably they have been forced to turned away hundreds animals due to lack of space, money, and manpower to care for them.  It is, an almost daily, difficult and heart wrenching decision.

Established in 1732, Seaport Georgetown is the third oldest city in South Carolina.  The Oak-lined avenues of this "little Charleston" city boasts treasures for even the most discriminating visitor.  Georgetown just refurbished the waterfront Harborwalk between two of the city’s most historically significant buildings, the Kaminski House (c.1760) and the Rice Museum (originally the Old Market building, c.1842).  Overlooking the Sampit River Harbor portion of Winyah Bay, the Harborwalk and Front Street are lined with over 50 restaurants, art galleries, quaint shops, specialty stores, and museums.  There are narrated historic tours; boat tours take you to see plantations, gators, and a barrier island light house.  Fresh seafood and marinas are part of a normal day in Georgetown and is a favorite stop for travelers of the Inter-coastal Waterway.

SC-CARES pursues several avenues to increase awareness and donations: RAZOO to process donations; Cars4Causes so people can donate even junk cars; emails; a Cause on Causes.com that everyone can join and recruit for via FaceBook their FaceBook page and YouTube.

As a 501(c)3 public charity, all donations are tax deductible, see GuideStar.com.  SC-CARES survives through the generosity of caring compassionate people. Who do you know that could help?. Visit www.sc-cares.org for support options, tell your friends.  SC-CARES is also looking for dedicated volunteers.
