Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon Returns to the Grand Strand this October

Organizers say over 5,000 runners, along with family and friends, will make their way to Myrtle Beach this fall for the Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon. The 13.1-mile Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon takes place Sunday, Oct. 20, but race events will be happening throughout the entire weekend.

In addition to the main event, the Grand Strand will play host to a health and fitness expo, the Coastal 5K race, the popular one-mile Doggie Dash and an 80-meter High Heel Run to benefit the Grand Strand Humane Society.

Last year’s Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon was a huge success, as 3,800 participants took part, helping to boost tourism numbers as the community eased into what is typically seen as a shoulder season.

“Attendees are coming from all 50 states, and it’s the love shown from the city of Myrtle Beach and the Myrtle Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau that has helped the Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon to grow over the years,” said Robert Pozo, race founder and director.

This year, the course has been revamped to feature the best of Myrtle Beach and has more than five miles of oceanfront running. With a flat course and only seven turns throughout, this course is the definition of a runner’s dream.

The weekend’s events will include:

  • 2-day Health and Fitness Expo Oct. 18, 2 to 7 p.m. and Oct. 19, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Marina Inn at Grande Dunes
  • Coastal 5k Oct. 19, 7:30 a.m. start time, Marina Inn at Grande Dunes
  • One-mile Doggie Dash Oct. 19, 8:30 a.m. start time, Marina Inn at Grande Dunes
  • 13.1-mile Mini Marathon Oct. 20, 7 a.m. start time, Coastal Grand Mall
