March Against Monsanto planned for May 25

Grand Stranders will gather on Saturday, May 25 to show their unity against Monsanto, and genetically modified organisms (GMO) making its way into our mainstream food supply without obvious labeling.

The rally will begin at 1 p.m. in Grand Park at the Market Common. Monsanto, a agricultural biotech company responsible for producing genetically engineered seed and the Roundup brand of herbicide, is being targeted in the name of food safety and giving consumers the ability to make informed decisions.

On the March Against Monsanto website, the organizers talk about why they march, including:

Research studies have shown that Monsanto’s genetically-modified foods can lead to serious health conditions such as the development of cancer tumors, infertility and birth defects.

and what they hope to accomplish:

Calling for further scientific research on the health effects of GMOs.
