Facebook Users “Like” Myrtle Beach During Spring Break

Facebook users over the age of 25 chose Myrtle Beach as the most popular spring break beach, based on check-ins posted on the social media site.

Facebook officials reviewed their data from the 2013 spring break period. They were looking to see where college-age users between 18 and 24 were vacationing and checking in at, and what the popular check-in destinations were for those 25 and older.

While Myrtle Beach didn’t make it on to the list of most popular spring break beaches for those 18 to 24, the Grand Strand ranked No. 1 and beat out other popular destinations like Miami’s South Beach and California’s Santa Monica Beach when the data for Facebook users 25 and over was tabulated.

“Social media continues to play an integral part in how we market our destination,” said Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. “Our official Visit Myrtle Beach Facebook page has over one million ‘likes,’ and through visitor photos and memories that are posted, we are able to tell people all over the world about the Myrtle Beach experience.”
