Man who assaulted uncle, girlfriend in Jan. 1 incident arrested

A man who assaulted his uncle after walking in on his uncle raping his girlfriend was charged with two crimes on Friday.

Police charged Daniel Mattson, 27, of Conway, with assault and domestic violence in connection with a Jan. 1 incident where he repeatedly struck the William Mattson, 52, with his fists.

Investigators determined there was a second, separate assault on William Mattson outside the residence after the threat to the victim had been removed, police said. Daniel Mattson is also charged with assaulting his girlfriend, the victim, immediately after the sexual assault.

Daniel Mattson is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
