Ice rink in Myrtle Beach Mall to open Friday

The opportunity to glide like a figure skater or a blueliner is coming back to the Grand Strand with “Ice at the Beach.”

A Christmastime indoor skating rink spanning about 1,600 square feet is scheduled to open at 11 a.m. Friday at Myrtle Beach Mall, in the court in front of the Carmike 12 theater. It will then be open daily through at least year’s end, except for Dec. 25.

Grand opening festivities will include ice skating demonstrations by former professional skaters Tricia Klocke and Carla Ericson, and an exhibition by current and former ice hockey players from the Coastal Carolina University Chanticleers, a second-year team that practices at a full-size rink in the Wilmington Ice House and has won nine of its first 13 games this season.
