Horry County to consider mandating daily pawnshop reporting in effort to curb crime

Horry County Police Department would like the County Council to approve an ordinance requiring pawn shops report inventory on a daily basis instead of weekly in an effort to catch stolen property more efficiently.

It’s a move some local pawn shop employees say won’t change much because they’ve been reporting daily to police for a while now.

The current county pawn ordinance requires pawn shops to provide copies of all customer and property description on a weekly basis to law enforcement in an effort to identify stolen property. Pawn shops nowadays are using computer software to better track inventory and the Horry County Public Safety committee will vote Wednesday on a plan to make it mandatory that the reporting of inventory be a daily process instead of weekly.
