Georgetown County emergency management division named top agency of the year

The Georgetown County emergency management division was named the top agency of the year and a county director received the volunteer/citizen of the year award during the annual South Carolina Emergency Management Association workshop this week in the Myrtle Beach area.

Beth Goodale, who is Georgetown County’s director of parks and recreation, was named the volunteer/citizen of the year, according to officials.

Nominees for the annual agency award are judged by their emergency management peers, officials said. The award is given to the emergency management agency that has made the most significant improvement or difference in their community during the past year in mitigating, responding to or recovering from a disaster.
