Ellis on the verge of milestone as Chants host Winthrop

Cliff Ellis has collected plenty of awards, honors and distinctions over his long career in college basketball. He’s filled his resume with memorable moments and impressive milestones while passing some notable names on the all-time wins list.

He has a chance Wednesday night to make more history – and this time he’d be joining an exclusive club.

Ellis, in his eighth season at Coastal Carolina after previous tenures at South Alabama, Clemson and Auburn, needs one victory to become the first men’s basketball coach in NCAA Division I history to reach 150 wins at four different schools.

But he wasn’t ready to indulge that impending feat too much Tuesday afternoon before practice as he said his full focus was on preparing the Chanticleers to host Winthrop at The HTC Center.
