Horry County ranks best among SC county-wide school systems

If you're not originally from the Grand Strand and area schools influenced your decision to come to Horry county, then your research paid off. Horry County Schools were recently ranked top in the state among county-wide school systems.

The overall ranking fell from an "A" to a "B" by just a few tenths of a point, but according to this press release from Horry County Schools:

HCS climbed 10 places in rank compared to other districts, up to 12th place in 2013 from 22ndplace in 2012. Of the 11 school districts that earned an “A” in 2013, none represent large, countywide school systems. HCS is the third largest of 85 school districts in South Carolina.

The Sun News has an excellent article, explaning the rankings and including information about Georgetown county schools, as well. WPDE has a story that includes some bad news for Conway High School and the Academy of Hope, a charter school in Conway.
