Coastal Carolina University’s Cultural Arts Program and the Office of Mulitcultural Student Services will present Aunt Pearlie Sue and The Gullah Kinfolk in their new show “Wax Museum” in Wheelwright Auditorium on Friday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m.

Renowned for entertaining audiences across North America for more than 10 years with Gullah-flavored folktales, Aunt Pearlie Sue and the Gullah Kinfolk present a new tale of wax statues that come to life entitled “Wax Museum.” Each character traces Gullah culture throughout its history – from West African slaves on the Sea Islands to the major figures of the Civil Rights movement to today in their signature lively, energetic, and soulful style. Audiences nationwide have been mesmerized by their unique brand of memorable performances and uplifting renditions of their historical repertoire.

The troupe, virtually all related, was formed by Anita Singleton-Prather, who is best known for her beloved character Aunt Pearlie Sue and who wrote this original production to present how central the Gullah culture is to historical events and across continents. She celebrates the hope and spirituality of a dynamic people and interconnected lives throughout the ages. Aunt Pearlie Sue and the Gullah Kinfolk have released two albums of songs and stories from the Sea Islands. Tickets for the event are $10 for general admission.  Teens, CCU and HGTC students, alumni, faculty, and staff tickets are $5. OLLI members and senior citizens’ tickets are also $5, and children’s tickets are free.  Seating is limited and reserved.
