South Carolina is the nation's 10th fastest growing state

Over the last year, South Carolina grew by some 74,886 people, making the Palmetto State the 10th fastest growing in both numbers and by percentage (1.7%).

It's possible that South Carolina could pick up another seat in the U.S. House of Representatives after the 2010 Census is completed, the 435 House seats are apportioned based off population. There are currently six seats.

The Charleston Regional Business Journal has a good write-up that hashes out all of the state's numbers, while the Census Bureau has the full top 10 list.

The growth figures were calculated for the period July 1, 2007 to July 1, 2008. The numbers show a cooling off of growth in the South, and it's thought that the housing crisis is making it harder for folks to move.

Utah was the number one grower by percentage (2.5%). Apparently people like Utah, who knew? -- Apparently people in Utah.
