Election day lines already long at opening in S.C.

Minutes before the official opening, the line was already long at the more-rural polling place of West Ashley High School.

And Twitter user Keithj wrote that "Belle hall voting line is up to approx 150. Translates into just over hour voting line."

The wait is similar all across the area. Twitter user Michael Carnell wrote "Probably about 300 to 400 people I'm line at Springfield Elementary in West Ashley." Things appear the same in Mount Pleasant: Twitter user Cantalyssa writes "just got to the polls at the AME church on hwy17 in MtP the line is 300 deep and it just opened."

Point is: Come prepared for a wait.

If you spot long lines or other weirdness at the polls, e-mail us or -- better yet -- post it straight to the Twitter community by putting #sce08 in your post.

Things are decidely better in South Carolina than in our sister state of North Carolina, where some people were turning up to wait in line at 4:30 a.m. Go read about it at CharlotteObserver.com.
