South Carolina's first black shrimp boat captain dies

Image by Flickr user johnolillyImage by 20081006shrimpboat.jpg Shrimp boats are a classic part of Lowcountry lore.

On September 27 the first black South Carolinian to own (and the first to captain) a shrimp boat died at the age of 100.

Charlie Wilson, of Port Royal, had accomplished the feat in 1929.

The Beaufort Gazette has a good write-up of the man.
