Google-backed competition looks to find use for medicine bottles

Teams of three-to-five students from Charleston-area colleges are spending ten days to see who can come up with the most creative use for discarded glass medicine bottles.

Students then have ten days to come up with an innovative use for that item. Google is one of the competition's sponsors.

The participating colleges in S.C. are: College of Charleston, The Citadel, Charleston Southern University, and Trident Technical College.

Students stand to win all sorts of prizes: A trip to Google's headquarters, scholarships, internships, dinners, tickets to games, among others. And, what I think is really great, the students retain the rights to the idea. No scammy corp looking to make a quick buck off a kid's idea here.

The deadline for Charleston's teams to turn in their idea is Friday, October 31, at noon.

I'm not certain of this, but it seems that the competition's selection of the Charleston area -- as one of a handful of select areas -- could be a result of Google's new local presence. Very cool.
