Charleston Fire Department's Station 12 got one advocacy group heated up this holiday season. The Freedom from Religion Foundation sent a written complaint to the station, saying  the Nativity scene and cross at station 12 was unlawful because it promoted Christianity of government property.

The station took down the nativity scene while looking over thier decoration options, until ultimatley deciding to include a Jewish Chanukah Menorah, Kwanzaa Kinara, Santa Claus, elves, and reindeer to the display.

Chief Thomas Carr Jr. said, “The change to the display at the station
was made to make clear that the display is a celebration of this
holiday season. As in the past, the firefighters at the station want to
celebrate this special season with the neighborhood. The Nativity scene
is one part of the holiday celebration.”
