Slain deputy's funeral held in Walterboro

Family and friends gathered Saturday morning to remember deputy Dennis Compton, shot and killed early Wednesday in Colleton County, as authorities still seek suspects in the case. Compton was to be buried in Virginia, according to reports.

ABC News 4 has video coverage of the funeral, as well as this report:

The parade of officers, family and friends showing just how big of an impact Deputy Dennis Compton made on his agency and in his community.

"The worst is behind us, right now we just need to concentrate on keeping his memory alive," said Compton's cousin, Cpl. Anthony Buchanan.

Also, two other news outlets have updates on the case so far, but basically, despite the questioning of three "persons of interest" in the days following the killing, there are still no suspects and no arrests, and SLED seems to be keeping pretty quiet on the issue.

From Live 5 News:

The State Law Enforcement Division has released a statement saying there still aren't any suspects in the murder of Colleton Co. Deputy Dennis Compton.

The statement says law inforcement has been conducting interviews, and following leads since Compton's murder, but any arrests made at this time are not associated with the crime.

From The Post and Courier:

The State Law Enforcement Division asked for help late Friday afternoon in solving the case and provided phone numbers that residents can call to give them tips.

SLED, which is the lead investigating agency in the case, won't say whether the three people are in jail or, if they are, what unrelated charges they face.
