City begins to tackle Market's gum poles

Whether you love or hate the gum poles at the corner of Market and East Bay Streets, you should know that the city has started removing the gum.

The Post and Courier has the story, an excerpt:
Monica Gonzalez, who sells Peruvian goods, agreed. "I think it's disgusting, but I see all different people do it, from teenagers to grandparents," she said. "It's becoming a tradition in Charleston."

I think Gonzalez's remark is spot on.

Of course, the gum poles have nothing on Bubble Gum Alley.

If anyone's in the area, grab a quick picture of the newly cleaned pole and e-mail it over. We'll post it for all.
