Start the New Year with Free ‘Powerful Tools for Caregivers’ Class

The ARK, Alzheimer’s Family Support Services, is kicking off 2017 with its free Powerful Tools for Caregivers series. Specifically designed for caregivers, this is an educational program designed to help family caregivers take care of themselves while caring for a relative or friend who has a chronic illness.

The class is 4-5:30 p.m. each Tuesday from Jan. 17 to Feb. 21 at Dorchester Seniors Inc., 312 N. Laurel Street in Summerville. The class is taught by certified class leaders. The class is free (donations accepted), but registration is required. Class size is limited; call 843-832-2357 or visit www.thearkofsc.org to register.

This program helps family caregivers reduce stress, improve self-confidence, communicate feelings better, balance their lives, increase their ability to make tough decisions, and locate helpful resources. Attendees will benefit from this class whether they are helping a parent, spouse or friend who lives at home, in a nursing home or across the country.

Scholarships are available for caregivers who need someone to care for their loved one while attending this class. For more details, contact The ARK at 843-832-2357.
