Ochoa withdraws from golf tournament

The world's No. 1-ranked woman golfer, Lorena Ochoa, has dropped out of the Ginn Tribute, hosted by Annika Sorenstam, which is taking place in Mount Pleasant this week. Ochoa cited a family emergency at her home in Mexico, releasing the following statement:

"I am very sorry to have to withdraw from the Ginn Tribute, by my uncle is very ill. I need to be with my uncle and my family right now."

The Post and Courier reports:

Tournament hostess Annika Sorenstam said her thoughts and prayers were with Ochoa and her family.

"She is a tremendous ambassador for our game and we will miss her this week," Sorenstam said. "That being said, family comes first and I know she has a very close family. I respect and support her decision and wish them the best."
