Possibly the biggest news in Myrtle Beach sports is happening 875 miles away in South Bend, Indiana.

The new starting quarterback of Notre Dame is Myrtle Beach's Everett Golson; who lead Myrtle Beach High School to "state titles in both football (over South Carolina defensive phenom Jadeveon Clowney) and basketball (as point guard)." Noter Dame's head coach Brian Kelly made the choice of Everett official yesterday. Grand Strand Sports Report writes, "Kelly made it official Thursday that the former Seahawk will start for the Fighting Irish in their Sept. 1 opener overseas against Navy..."

The South Bend Tribune has an excellent profile on Golson; additionally,  Golson has been burning up the sports headlines across the county.
