After the first day of the 2009 CCAA Championship Meet, the Daniel Island Flying Fish are the surprising early leaders. Daniel Island closed out the opening day of competition with 940.5 points, followed by the twenty-time defending CCAA champions from Snee Farm. The top five is rounded out by Coosaw Creek (890.5 points), Parkshore (847), and Hobcaw (740.5).

Two individual records were set during the first day of competition, both in the 7-8 age group. Fort Johnson's Mary Alice Dupree broke a twenty-year old record in the 7-8 girls butterfly, while Justin Lawrence of the Shadowmoss Sharks eclipsed his own CCAA record in the 7-8 boys breaststroke. Mary Alice just missed breaking the record in the 7-8 girls backstroke, falling short by .14 seconds while winning the event by nearly two seconds.
