Larry Leckonby has been named the new Citadel athletic director.

Leckonby, 51, is taking over for retiring Les Robinson. Leckonby comes from Maryland where he was the senior associate athletic director for business and finance.

Three finalists were considered from a pool of 69 applicants. Leckonby bested Newberry College Athletic Director Andy Carter and Alabama-Birmingham Senior Associate Athletic Director Lee Moon.

Leckonby starts work July 15.
