Citadel loses in first round of SoCon Championship

Update May 21:

The Citadel’s Chris McGuiness hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning that broke an 8-8 tie and propelled the No. 3 seeded Bulldogs to a 9-8 elimination game victory over the No. 7 seed Davidson Wildcats.

The Citadel (35-21) advances in the bracket to face the loser of the Georgia Southern-Appalachian State game Friday at 3 p.m.

The Citadel lost their opening Southern Conference Tournament game 4-1 against sixth-seeded Appalachian State.

The Citadel (34-21) scored only one run on seven hits in the game, with only two hits in the final four innings of play. Appalachian State (33-19) picked up three runs at the top of the ninth after most of the game was spent deadlocked at 1-1.
