Charleston Playmakers basketball team battles for national championship

North Charleston's Playmakers has worked hard and has earned a spot in the national AAU Championship in Florida.

The basketball team was put together at Northwoods Middle School back in March, when a couple of students approached their PE teacher with a request: to be on a basketball team. One team member, eighth-grader Thaddeus Middleton, finds solace in being a part of the team. "I love basketball," he said. "Without basketball, I feel like my life sucks."

The Playmakers team has kept these kids off the street and focused on something positive. Already, they have succeeded in both Myrtle Beach and Atlanta, and they look forward to putting forth their best efforts at the championship games in Florida.

The team has already paid for their hotel and registration for the Florida championship; however, they're short $1,000 for gas and food.
