Lawmakers, black community deterring USC football recruits

Black lawmakers are urging black football recruits to reconsider playing for the University of South Carolina because the school could lose its lone black trustee.

Lawyer Leah B. Moody is the board's only black member, and many feel that she won't receive enough votes to be appointed to a full term on the 22-member board next month.

Several black lawmakers said members of the black community have been calling recruits and their families urging them to rethink playing for USC. Many are displeased that the school will accept black players, but not accept black members on their board.
