Kirt Caton, M.D. has joined Select Health of South Carolina as a medical director. Dr. Caton brings more than 15 years of health care experience as a private practice physician to Select Health. Select Health is part of AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies.

Dr. Caton will provide leadership in the areas of utilization review, care management and provider education. He will also work collaboratively with Select Health’s Chief Medical Officer, Fred Volkman, M.D., to enhance Select Health’s provider network.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Caton,” said Cindy Helling, executive director of Select Health. “He brings a wealth of medical knowledge and experience and will be instrumental in providing quality health care services to our members.”

Dr. Caton has spent his entire career practicing medicine in South Carolina. He comes to Select Health from Palmetto Primary Care Physicians (PPCP), a large medical group in the Lowcountry. He was instrumental in developing a Patient-Centered Medical Home practice for PPCP and served on the board and quality committee for the group. While at PPCP, Dr. Caton was an active member of Select Health’s Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Committee. He also served as an adjunct professor of family medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Dr. Caton completed an undergraduate degree in biology with a minor in chemistry at Charleston Southern University, his medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina and an internship and residency in family medicine with Trident Family Medicine. He is board-certified in family medicine. Dr. Caton and his wife Rhonda are originally from Trinidad and Tobago and reside in North Charleston with their sons, Michael and Nicolas.
