Cathryn Caton, M.D., has joined Select Health of South Carolina as a medical director. Dr. Caton brings more than five years of health care experience as a hospitalist to Select Health, the state’s oldest and largest Medicaid managed care organization. Select Health offers its First Choice health plan in all 46 counties of South Carolina and is part of the AmeriHealth Caritas family of companies.
Dr. Caton will oversee Select Health’s utilization review, care management and provider education areas. She will also work collaboratively with Select Health’s Chief Medical Officer, Fred Hill, M.D., to enhance Select Health’s provider network.

Dr. Caton has spent her entire career practicing medicine in South Carolina. She comes to Select Health from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where she served as an attending physician and medical director of a medical-surgical unit. In the latter role, she supported MUSC’s quality improvement effort.
Dr. Caton earned an undergraduate degree in business management at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. She completed her medical degree, internship and residency in internal medicine at MUSC. After residency, Dr. Caton completed the Academic Generalist Fellowship Program at MUSC, earning a master’s of science in clinical research. She is board-certified in internal medicine and resides in West Ashley.
