CHARLESTON, SC - Book lovers and others are invited to a launch party for author Dorothea Benton Frank’s newest novel, Lowcountry Summer, where they’ll get up close with the author and generate vital funds for local libraries.

The author – whose work has spent much  time on the New York Times bestseller list – will hold the first Charleston speaking engagement of her national book tour on Wednesday, June 16 at a special fundraiser for the Charleston County Public Library. The event will be at the Cooper River Room of Mount Pleasant’s new Waterfront Park, from 5:30 to 7:30. Guests will enjoy champagne, a reading by the author, and a book signing. Books will be available for purchase that evening from Indigo Books of Johns Island.  Tickets are $30, and the event is hosted by Charleston Friends of the Library.

In addition to launching her tour with the special reading on the 16th, Frank will also be the guest of honor for a unique “Girls Night Out” event on June 14.  Fans of the author’s work can secure a seat at Charleston Grill’s chef’s table, where chef Michelle Weaver will create a memorable meal. Tickets for the evening are $250, and only seven seats are being offered (the eighth is reserved for Ms. Frank).

Tickets and book reservations are available online at www.charlestonlibraryfriends.org or by calling (843)805-6882.

Proceeds from both events will support public programming at Charleston County Public Libraries. Libraries have been subjected to major state and county budget cuts; yet record-numbers of citizens are relying on local libraries for help with job searches, skill building, free internet access, and more.

Sponsors of the June events include: Charleston Naturally, Charleston Grill, Charleston Magazine, The Town of Mount Pleasant, Firefly Distillery and JFletcher Design.
