Local charity feeds a tremendous need

The Community Kitchen Inc. is a longstanding charity, assisting the local hungry and homeless. serving up nutritious meals with a side of encouragement.

The Community Kitchen Inc. of Myrtle Beach began in 1992 with a concrete mission, simply to feed the hungry. It originally launched feeding a mere 30 – 40 people and has grown immensely, now serving between 350 – 450 disadvantaged daily. Originally they focused on feeding the hungry with compassion and excellence; they have since found their role has increased not only as a source of sustenance, but also guidance and encouragement. They cheerfully serve all who request aid.

They are assisted monetarily by local churches, businesses and individuals. Also, to accommodate the expanding number of local poverty stricken, they require approximately 100 volunteers weekly. The need here is immense, as The Community Kitchen, Inc. is the only “soup kitchen” in the Myrtle Beach area.

The current location is at The Community Assistance Center at 1411 Mr. Joe White Avenue in Myrtle Beach. The center is open 365 days a year. Breakfast is served Monday through Friday from 7:15 to 8:30, and on Sunday mornings at 7:30. Lunch is served Monday through Saturday at 11:00. Also, there is a Tuesday night dinner at 6:00 p.m. provided by Swash Park Ministry.
