Collins may enter race for Summerville Senate seat

Bill Collins, former editor/publisher/owner of the Summerville Journal Scene, may be on the ballot in November to try and take S.C. Senate seat for District 38 away from Republicans.

Petitions are circulating to get Collins on the ballot, but he'll need 3,165 by July 15.

The Summerville Journal Scene quoted Collins:
I had considered getting into the race against Randy Scott and Mike Rose, but I’ve seen up close how races like that can get really dirty. I wanted no part in it — but now I feel the voters in Senate District 38 need another option.

Randy Scott currently holds the Senate seat, but he lost in the June 10 primary to former Sen. Mike Rose by 548 votes. Scott was recently involved in a now-dismissed DUI case.

There were no Democrats running in the primary.
