Grand Strand is the largest violator of beach setback laws

There are several concerns with construction across the coastline of South Carolina. Not only is beach erosion an issue, but risk of hurricane damage is a concern as well.  

There is an established setback line that structures are not supposed to extend past but there are many that don't adhere to that law. This excellent post on The Sun News Opninion Blog covers all the bases including some great links. According to the text, nearly half of the structures in violation are within the Grand Strand coastline.
