The Post and Courier is decrying a decision by Charleston County to allot $12,500 in county accommodations tax money to a new farmers market in a rural part of the county near Ravanel.

Read more stories on this subject in our accommodations tax topic page. The paper is less upset with the total dollar amount than with how the sum compares to what events like Spoleto are due to receive.

You can read their stance over here.

As counterpoint, it's worth considering just how much direct and indirect funding events like Spoleto receive each year.

$12 grand is nothing to sneeze at, but it could certainly go a lot further to establish a farmers market than it would elsewhere.
