Race for the 7th: Candidate Profiles

Election Day 2012 is just 25 days away, while most already have their minds made up for whom they will be voting for nationally however locally there are 10% who are undecided on the 7th district race

When the 7th District was announced we started doing basic candidate profiles of any and everyone that decided to throw their proverbial hat into the ring but now with the election so close we've decided to focus on the two candidates who are still in the running. 

Tom Rice:

373 "Tom Rice has been a resident of Horry County since he was four years-old. Tom attended the University of South Carolina where he earned a Masters degree in accounting and a law degree. After college, Tom worked at the worldwide accounting and consulting firm, Deloitte & Touche in Charlotte where he earned his CPA certificate.In 1985 he returned to Myrtle Beach to practice Tax Law with the Van Osdell Law Firm. In 1997, Tom established his own practice, the Rice & MacDonald Law Firm [...] 

Over the years, Tom has served our community through many charitable and civic organizations including the Myrtle Beach Haven Homeless Shelter (President), Boy Scouts, Grand Strand Sertoma Club (Secretary, President), Ocean View Foundation (President), Trinity Episcopal Church (Vestry), YMCA, and York Place. He served on several community advisory boards including Horry County Probate Court Advisory Committee, Myrtle Beach Board of Zoning Variances (Chairman), Blue Ribbon Committee to Study Emergency Services for the City of Myrtle Beach, and the SC Department of Natural Resources Conservation Education & Communication Advisory Board. He participated in Leadership Grand Strand VIII.

In 2010, Tom was elected Chairman of Horry County Council.

Gloria Bromell Tinubu:

"Gloria Bromell Tinubu is a native of Georgetown County, South Carolina. She has 34 years of experience as an applied economist and community leader.

Bromell Tinubu is currently a teaching associate at Coastal Carolina 374 University in Conway, South Carolina. She also heads a family business that specializes in community economic development. Previously, Tinubu chaired the Economics department at Spelman College, and was founder and CEO of Atlanta Cooperative Development Corporation. Since 1987, she has been an Associate of the Thurmond Institute of Government and Public Affairs at Clemson University. Tinubu has also served as a Democratic member from District 60 in the Georgia House of Representatives. She also served on the Atlanta City Council for four years."
