Update August 31:

In the midst of a major struggle to balance its budget, the CARTA Human Resources Committee voted unanimously yesterday to cut CARTA administration salaries by 0.25 percent.

And, if you're interested, At 4 p.m. on Wednesday, the CARTA Route Performance Committee will meet to analyze bus routes and make recommendations on which, if any, routes to cut. The meeting is to be held at the Charleston County Main Library, Conference Room B, located at 68 Calhoun Street.

The Post and Courier has more on the changes taking place within CARTA; read it here.

Update August 28: A press release came out yesterday alerting that CARTA's proposed raises are on hold to ensure that "responsible decisions about the budget" are being made.

The Post and Courier has a nice hashing of that and upcoming meetings; read it here.

First reporting August 26: Would strike me as unwise to push through staff raises when cutting services and hiking up the price of service.

Get a rundown of the situation over at The Post and Courier.
