Pet Food Drive to help struggling Charleston families

The S.C. Bar Animal Law Committee is collecting cat and dog food for its 2013 Holiday Pet Food Drive. Items will be donated to various pet food pantries throughout the state.

Volunteers are collecting food through Dec. 31. Items needed include canned dog food, canned cat food, dry dog food, dry cat food, dog treats, cat treats and cat litter. Items can be dropped off at either of the following Charleston locations:

  • ·      Community Food Bank—255 Remount Rd., 29406
  •       Debra E. Stokes, LLC—200 Meeting St., Ste. 404, 29401
  •       McGee Law Firm, LLC—113 Wappoo Creek Dr., 29412

"The Animal Law Committee is excited to hold the first-ever Holiday Pet Food Drive," said Katie Phillips, coordinator for the Holiday Pet Food Drive. "The holidays can be tough on budgets, and we want to make sure pets throughout South Carolina are able to stay in their homes and are taken care of. Every little bit helps; please consider making a donation."

Tax-deductible monetary donations to specific pet food banks are also welcome.  Please mail checks directly to the pet food bank of your choice and include “pet food bank” or “S.C. Bar Holiday Food Drive” on the check. Pet food donations can also be made through online retailers, such as Amazon and Petango, and shipped directly to the pet food bank.

For more information contact Katie Phillips at phillips@mtsolawfirm.com. Additional drop off locations can be found online at www.scbar.org/Committees/AnimalLawCommittee.

The Holiday Pet Food Drive was developed by the Animal Law Committee in an effort to provide pet food to families in South Carolina dealing with financial hardship, with the hope that more families are able to keep their pets instead of having to surrender them to a municipal shelter.

The South Carolina Bar, which has a membership of more than 14,500 lawyers, is dedicated to advancing justice, professionalism and understanding of the law.
