Reader letter: Preservation or destruction?

[Editor's note: As part of our Open Community program, locals can write about their opinion.]

Wouldn't you think that an organization who's mission it is to foster preservation should actually be doing so?

The American College of Building Arts, supposedly taking care of and restoring the Old Charleston City Jail, took it upon themselves to destroy history instead of preserve it.

They had cut apart and hauled away the old paddy wagon that for years sat in the yard.

Now, instead of taking care of our resources they are destroying them. Donate it to the museum? No. Store it and restore it? No. Sell it or offer it up? No.  Cut it up in secrecy and have it hauled away. Sure....
