Island Packet agrees: S.C. 'I Believe' plates a poor use of taxpayer money

Here's an idea: South Carolina should issue license plates that identify the vehicles on our roads -- nothing more, nothing less.

Those who want to make a political or personal statement can slap bumper stickers on their vehicles to their hearts' content.

I, too, have said the battle for the license plates is a frivolous use of taxpayer money doing a period of economic crisis.

The paper reminds us that South Carolina's battle for "Choose Life" license plates wound up with the stating footing its own legal fees and $157,000 the Planned Parenthood incurred when fighting the state.
