South Carolina is joining the national 'Operation Lifesaver' information program to reduce accidents and promote safety at railroad crossings.

North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey already tried to enact an operation lifesaver of his own, now he'll be getting national support.

Judging from the Operation Lifesaver statistics, South Carolina isn't too high on the list when it comes to crossing fatalities or collisions, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

The Post and Courier has the story.
