Fire breaks out on USS Yorktown, thousands in repairs needed

A small, intense fire broke out aboard the USS Yorktown early on Tuesday morning.

The fire started at the desk in the print shop area, and luckily, due to the Yorktown's build, was contained to just that room. Firefighters easily put a stop to the blaze with a Co2 bomb and fire extinguishers, but due to the intense heat aboard the ship, several of them had to be treated for heat exhaustion.

Nobody aboard the ship was injured, and tours continued on Tuesday afternoon.

Posted above is News 2 Charleston's video news report offering a good look at the fire damage.
