Columbia teacher honored for innovative teaching methods

The State's Bertram Rantin on a Columbia elementary teacher honored with a prestigious teaching award:
When Kelley Sumner ponders the days of Reconstruction, her thoughts often turn to race relations today.

And when revisiting The Cold War, it’s not without an eye to today’s war on terror.

Helping students make those same connections is a passion for the Richland 1 history teacher, who has been named the 2008 National Elementary Social Studies Teacher of the Year.

USA Today also did a video piece on Kelley Sumner.
