South Carolina has been given more than $550,000 to put four new hybrid-electric school buses on the road; one of which will be assigned to Charleston County schools.

The four new buses will be the only new additions to the fleet this year despite the fact that South Carolina's school buses are the some of the oldest, most polluting, and least safe in the nation.

The Post and Courier has the story.
