Annexation push in West Ashley district

The City if Charleston is renewing its push to annex properties owned in the the St. Andrews Public Service District in West Ashley.

City officials are encouraging the voluntary annexations to improve government efficiency. Currently, the city and St. Andrews Public Service District send their own garbage trucks to different houses on the same streets, and maintain separate fire departments.

So far, the financial incentives in the form of lower city taxes and water bills has convinced 77 PSD residents to join the city of Charleston.

The Post and Courier has this very interesting story.
