Local humane societies reduce adoption rates for older animals

The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach is reducing adoption fees on senior pets ages 7 and up to $30 each Saturday during the month of September.

The Humane Society's promotion is an effort to draw attention to the older pets in their care that get overlooked because of the large number of puppies and kittens in the shelter.

“Adult pets are usually already trained and ready to go! Adults have a much longer attention span than puppies and kittens, too, which means they're easier and faster to teach. Adult pets already have recognizable personality traits, so it is easier to find the perfect match for your family,”stated Tina Hunter, Shelter Manager.

Currently the North Myrtle Beach shelter has 187 animals available for adoption, 30% of which are senior pets.  Anyone interested in adopting a senior pet for the reduced rate can stop by the shelter at 409 Bay Street in North Myrtle Beach from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays during the month of September.  To keep up with the latest from them, like them on Facebook.

The Grand Strand Humane Society in Myrtle Beach is also offering a dramatic adoption fee reduction for several cats and dogs who have had an extended stay at the shelter.  They are located at 3241 Mr. Joe White Avenue and are open Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  For the most current information from them, like them on Facebook.
