Ways to help others during the holidays 2012

If you're interested in donating time, money, or items to the less fortunate in Horry county, we've got a list of ways you can help.

Toys for Tots - This Marine Corp Reserve based organization is accepting both toys and monetary donations.  To find a spot accepting new, unwrapped toys, visit their site to view the list. You can also donate money towards the cause online.  

Salvation Army's Red Kettle - We've all see the volunteers standing outside of our favorite stores during the holiday season ringing the bells and standing in front of the red kettle. According to their site, donations go to "support provide Christmas dinner, clothing, and toys for families in need. Financial assistance also helps with basic necessities, along with seasonal aid. Families of prisoners often are included."  An alternative to dropping a dollar into the kettle is to start your own online red kettle and collect donations from friends and families.  You can read more about how to create one, either as an individual or team, here.

Fostering Hope -  Based on Conway, this organization works with children in the Horry county foster care system is looking for donations of new/gently worn winter coats and clothing, new underwear and socks, and hygiene products for children and teens.  You can call 254-8168 for more information or drop off your donation at 1001 Second Avenue in Conway.  

Churches Assisting People (CAP) - Based in Conway, this organization runs a food pantry and is always in need of non-perishable items.  They also accept monetary donations to assist with emergency needs. They are located at 206 Main Street and can be reached at (843) 488-2277.
